Description

Pyrocalm Control 20mg

Pyrocalm Control 20mg relieves the symptoms of acid reflux, such as heartburn and acid regurgitation. Reflux is the backflow of acid from the stomach into the gullet, which can become inflamed and painful. Pyrocalm Control reduces the production of stomach acid to increase comfort and reduce reflux.

How it works

The active ingredient is omeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor. Acid is made by pumps in the lining of the stomach, and a PPI switches those pumps off at source. That is different from an antacid, which neutralises acid already present and wears off within the hour. Because it reduces production rather than reacting to what is there, the relief lasts longer, but it builds over two to three days rather than working immediately.

How to use it

Swallow the tablet whole with water, in the morning before food, as directed on the pack. Do not chew or crush it. It is taken as a short course rather than as a single dose when symptoms appear, and many people notice the benefit on the second or third day. Smaller evening meals, less alcohol and caffeine, and not lying down soon after eating all help alongside.

Who it is for

Pharmacy supply is for adults aged 18 and over with heartburn and reflux symptoms. It is not for anyone under 18 without medical advice, and a pharmacist should be consulted if you take other medicines, since omeprazole interacts with several, including clopidogrel and methotrexate.

Safety and when to get advice

Headache, diarrhoea, constipation, wind and nausea are among the reported effects. Over the counter use is intended as a short course; see a GP rather than repeating it if symptoms keep returning. Seek medical advice promptly for difficulty or pain on swallowing, food sticking, unexplained weight loss, persistent vomiting, vomit resembling coffee grounds, black tarry stools, or new heartburn over the age of 55. Seek emergency help for chest pain with breathlessness or sweating. Our UK pharmacy team can answer questions about this product before you buy.

Common questions

Why is it not working straight away?
A PPI builds over two to three days. An antacid is what works immediately.

How long should I take it?
As a short course per the pack. Recurring symptoms should be assessed by a GP.

Can I take an antacid alongside?
Often yes for breakthrough symptoms. Ask a pharmacist about timing.

Always read the patient information leaflet supplied with the pack before use.
