Description

Microgynon is an oral contraceptive pill that helps prevent pregnancy. It contains two hormones, ethinylestradiol and levonorgestrel, which work together to prevent ovulation. By stopping the release of an egg from the ovaries, Microgynon makes it highly difficult for pregnancy to occur.

Microgynon is taken orally once a day, at the same time every day, for 21 consecutive days, followed by a 7-day pill-free interval. During this interval, a woman will typically experience a withdrawal bleed, which is similar to a menstrual period. After the 7-day pill-free interval, the next pack of Microgynon is started, and the process is repeated.

Microgynon is over 99% effective when taken as directed, making it a reliable and convenient form of contraception. In addition to its contraceptive properties, Microgynon can also help regulate periods, reduce the severity of premenstrual symptoms, and offer protection against certain types of cancers, such as endometrial and ovarian cancer.

It's important to note that Microgynon does not protect against sexually transmitted infections, and alternative forms of protection, such as condoms, should be used to reduce the risk of STIs. Microgynon is not suitable for everyone, and a healthcare clinician should be consulted to determine whether it is the right contraceptive option for you.
