Description

Canesbalance Bacterial Vaginosis Vaginal Gel

Canesbalance BV Vaginal Gel is used for the management and relief of bacterial vaginosis. BV occurs when the balance of bacteria in the vagina is disrupted, causing unusual discharge, odour and discomfort. The gel helps restore the natural pH balance of the vagina and is supplied in single use applicators.

How it works

The vagina is normally acidic, and that acidity is maintained by lactobacilli and keeps other organisms in check. In BV the pH rises, the protective lactobacilli are outnumbered and the resulting overgrowth produces the thin discharge and fishy odour that characterise the condition. The gel lowers the pH back towards normal, which makes the environment unfavourable to the overgrowth and allows the natural flora to recover. It also helps flush away the discharge itself.

How to use it

Insert the contents of one applicator into the vagina as directed, usually at bedtime so it remains in place overnight, and finish the full course even once symptoms have settled, since stopping early is a common reason BV returns. Wash your hands before and after. Avoid douching and perfumed washes, which work against what the gel is doing.

Who it is for

It is for adult women with symptoms of BV. It is not a treatment for thrush, which needs an antifungal instead, and telling the two apart matters. A pharmacist can help if you are unsure which you have.

Safety and when to get advice

See a clinician if this is your first episode, if you are pregnant, since BV in pregnancy needs assessment, if you have pelvic pain, fever, bleeding between periods or after sex, or if symptoms persist after the course. Recurrent BV is common and worth a proper conversation rather than repeated self treatment. Our UK pharmacy team can answer questions about this product before you buy.

Common questions

Is this the same as a thrush treatment?
No. Thrush needs an antifungal. This restores vaginal pH for BV.

Can I use it during a period?
Check the pack instructions and ask a pharmacist if unsure.

Do I need to finish the course?
Yes. Stopping as soon as symptoms ease is a common reason BV comes back.

Always read the information supplied with the pack before use.

Directions

Using Canesbalance BV Vaginal Gel is straightforward and can be done in the privacy of your home. Follow these directions for safe and effective use:
Wash Your Hands: Begin by thoroughly washing your hands with soap and water to ensure cleanliness.

Ingredients

Canesbalance BV Vaginal Gel contains a unique combination of active ingredients carefully selected to address the underlying causes of bacterial vaginosis and promote a healthy vaginal environment. The active ingredients include:
Lactic Acid: Lactic acid is a naturally occurring compound in the vagina and plays a crucial role in maintaining its acidic pH. This acidity is necessary to keep harmful bacteria in check.
Glycogen: Glycogen serves as a source of nutrition for beneficial lactobacilli bacteria in the vagina. By promoting the growth of these "friendly" bacteria, glycogen helps restore the natural vaginal flora.
These ingredients work synergistically to help rebalance the vaginal microbiome and support the body's natural defense mechanisms against BV.

Side Effects

Canesbalance BV Vaginal Gel is generally well-tolerated, and side effects are rare. However, some individuals may experience mild side effects. These may include:
Mild Vaginal Irritation: In some cases, women may experience mild vaginal irritation or a burning sensation shortly after using the gel. This is usually temporary and subsides on its own.
Allergic Reaction: Although rare, an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients may occur. If you experience symptoms such as itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing, discontinue use immediately and seek medical attention.
It's important to note that these side effects are uncommon, and most women can use Canesbalance BV Vaginal Gel without any adverse reactions. If you have concerns about potential side effects, consult with a healthcare provider before use.

Before using Canesbalance BV Vaginal Gel, consider the following warnings and precautions:
