Buccastem M 3mg Tablets

Buccastem M contains prochlorperazine 3mg and is used for nausea and sickness associated with migraine. The tablet is placed between the upper lip and gum rather than swallowed, which makes it practical when swallowing a tablet or keeping anything down is difficult.

How it works

Prochlorperazine blocks dopamine signalling in the part of the brain that triggers nausea and vomiting. Placing the tablet against the gum lets it dissolve and absorb through the lining of the mouth directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the stomach entirely. That matters during migraine, when the stomach empties slowly and swallowed medicines are absorbed poorly.

How to use it

Place one tablet high between the upper lip and the gum and leave it to dissolve. Do not chew or swallow it, and avoid moving it around with your tongue. The tablet softens and sticks in place over a few minutes. Follow the dosing and maximum stated on the pack.

Who it is for
