Description

Acriflex 0.25% w/w Cream

Acriflex 0.25% Cream is an antiseptic cream for everyday minor skin damage, including small burns, scalds, cuts, grazes, blisters and cracked skin that has become infected. It contains chlorhexidine gluconate and is a common item in a home or workplace first aid kit.

How it works

Chlorhexidine gluconate is an antiseptic that kills a broad range of bacteria on the skin surface and keeps their numbers down while the skin repairs itself. Lowering the bacterial load reduces the chance that a minor injury becomes infected, and the cream base also keeps the area comfortable and less likely to dry and crack.

How to use it

Clean the area first with cool running water and pat dry. Apply a thin layer of cream to the affected skin and repeat as directed on the pack. Cover with a dressing if the area is likely to rub against clothing. For minor burns and scalds, run the area under cool water for twenty minutes before anything else is applied.

Who it is for

It is for minor skin injuries in adults and children. It is not for deep wounds, large or blistered burns, animal or human bites, or any wound that is already badly infected, and it should not be used by anyone sensitive to chlorhexidine.

Safety and when to get advice

Seek medical help for burns that are larger than the palm of the hand, burns to the face, hands, feet or genitals, any burn on a baby or young child, wounds that will not stop bleeding, or signs of spreading infection such as heat, swelling, pus or a red line moving away from the wound. Stop use if the skin becomes more irritated. Our UK pharmacy team can answer questions about this product before you buy.

Common questions

Can I use it on a child?
It can be used for minor injuries in children. Ask a pharmacist if you are unsure, and get medical advice for burns in babies and young children.

Is it the same as an antibiotic cream?
No. It is an antiseptic that reduces bacteria on the surface rather than an antibiotic medicine.

How long can I keep using it?
For short term use on minor injuries. If the area is not improving after a few days, get it looked at.

Always read the patient information leaflet supplied with the pack before use.

Directions

General Use: Apply the cream liberally to the affected area and gently smooth it in. Use as needed.
For Cuts, Abrasions, or Burns: Apply a generous amount of cream to the injury. If required, cover the area with a sterile dressing.
Precautions: Avoid contact with eyes and body cavities (mouth, vagina, inner ear). If swallowed accidentally, seek immediate medical attention and bring the product packaging with you.
