Presenting G-Fit: a genotype-based fitness class concept
Rightangled announced the launch of "G-Fit", a fitness class concept built around tailoring exercise to different muscle fibre profiles.
The idea behind it
The premise was that DNA testing could inform more than health risk or ancestry — it could also shape how someone trains. G-Fit was designed around the genetic factors influencing skeletal muscle fibre composition.
Skeletal muscle is made up of individual muscle fibres classified by how they produce energy, broadly divided into slow-twitch (Type I) and fast-twitch (Type II). Slow-twitch fibres support sustained endurance activity, while fast-twitch fibres produce short, powerful bursts of movement but fatigue more quickly.
Everyone has a mixture of both, and the proportion varies between individuals — influenced partly by genetics and partly by training history. G-Fit aimed to account for that variation rather than applying an identical class format to everyone.
The launch
Following a soft launch in Central London in partnership with fitness group 1Rebel, the concept was intended to roll out to further UK cities.

A note on the science
Research into genetics and exercise response is genuine and ongoing — variants in genes such as ACTN3 and PPARA are associated with tendencies toward power or endurance performance. However, the effect on any individual is modest, and evidence that genotype-matched training produces better outcomes than well-designed conventional programming remains limited. Genetics is best treated as useful context rather than a training prescription.
